Initiatives

a) Annual Feast For The Elderly

In the month of October  every year, we celebrate  “Festa dell'Anziano dell'anno” ( the feast of the Elder of the year).

The Ist Edition  of this manifestation was presented on the 4th of october 1994, now we have reached the 19th Edition. During this occasion award is given to the most Senior Guest of our Nursing Home. Another award is given to any Senior within our territory that has distinguished himself or herself in something outstanding. Other prices are given other Seniors of the house that have distinguished themselves in various fields- handicrafts, cultural, artistic, economic, legal, social, religious etc. Other awards are given to staffs and personnel of the Center  who have excelled in something special during the year.

The families of our Guests participates actively in this event.

b) Religious Services

The Holy Mass is celebrated everyday accompanied by the Holy Rosary.

On Sundays, masses are celebrated animated by the D.M.M.M. Sisters Working at the Center.

Eucharistic Adoration is done everyThursday and the Sacrament of Confession once a month.

Christmas and Easter Celebrations are celebrated with solemnity with the participation of family members, staff and workers.

The month of November every year marks the commemoration our the deseased members of our Center. Relatives of the deseased are members are  always invited for the celebration.

c) Animation

The  techniques of animation applied in our Care Home are specifically personalied to the needs of each person. We do both individual and group animation.
To help the inmates to accept, adapt and enjoy their stay in our Center, we use counselling methods, practised by professional Counsellors. Various types of cultural activied are also used to animate our Guests.

The techniques of musical entertainment  and animations are directed particularly to subjects with severe cognitive deficits, because  music is often the only way to awaken emotions in these subjects. Games and other techniques are often applied to improve their visual-motor coordination.
We  also carry out exercises of neuropsychological stimulation of memory and orientation.

All these activities are done in a context in which the psychological climate activated helps to create a higher degree of integration between  Guests of our Geriatric Home and their educators, which promotes, beyond the methods and strategies employed, the best results in terms of  animation and rehabilitation.
The daily entertainment activities consists of – card coloring, bingo games, Sudoku (Chinese game). All these activities helps  to create a lively atmosphere for the aged,  enjoy their stay and to maintain their memory vivid.

The latest innovations of our Centre is the diffussion of music in all over the edifice with the possibiliy of transmitting music, prayers and messages also connected through the Radio "Una Voce Vicina".We are able also participate in parish activities via radio.

d) Birthday Celebrations
Birthdays are celebrated monthly for the Inmates, Staff and Personnels of our Center.

The celebration begins with a spiritual preparation  (confessions) every last Friday of each month, followed by the Eucharistic  celebration, at the end of the Mass, gifts are given to all those celebrating their birthdays.

The recreational part is held on the last Sunday of the month with music, karaoke and cakes.

e) Adopt a Senior

This initiative  is personally runned by Father Sortino.

Certainly you must have known or heard about  the Geriatric Center Centro Anziani "Ain Karim" of Carlentini.
This Center has been operating in our territory for over 21 years now. The Center  hospitalizes about 70 guests. The  activities of our care Home is not only in social and care area, but also a witness of evangelical  faith for anyone who wishes live according to the command of love, as Jesus expressed in his speech about the end of time- "I was sick and you visited me etc; you did it to Me”.

Now our structure is rapidly expanding and the needs of the elderly people are increasing more and more. For this reason, I have I decided to make this problem known to people of good will, trusting in the Divine Providence from whom nothing escapes.

As you know this is not taxation, but simply a way of touching the hearts of sensitive people to help us. People could make their donations monthly, yearly etc.. or could deposit any amout in the box at the entrance of the Center FAC. Anyone who wishes may eaqually use our postal order to make their donations.

The Holy Mass will be celebrated every first Sunday of the month at the Center's Chapel for the intentions of all our benefactors.
